The BIEA promotes the publication of original research on the histories, cultures and societies of Eastern Africa, through its society journals and through contributions to several book series. New publications from BIEA researchers and BIEA-funded research projects are announced on our blog.
The institute’s two flagship journals, Azania: Archaeological Research in Africa and the Journal of Eastern African Studies, are published with Taylor & Francis.
The British Institute in Eastern Africa Memoir series is published with Routledge, with some earlier editions available online and all editions available in the BIEA Library.
Several titles in the Eastern Africa Series (James Currey; Boydell and Brewer) have been published in association with the BIEA.
BIEA is among the sponsors of the African Arguments book series (International African Institute, published by Hurst), and the associated African Arguments Debating Ideas blog.
The BIEA Annual Review provides a yearly record of the institute’s research activities and impacts. It documents key research projects, awards and achievements as well as organizational developments. Copies of the Annual Review are available online and in the BIEA Library.
There are many reasons to become a member of the BIEA and join our research community. The BIEA membership is open to all researchers and early career researchers.
