BIEA offers event spaces, workspaces and specialized equipment to support scholarly engagement and collaboration. These facilities can be hired independently or integrated into research partnerships. Researchers are encouraged to contact the BIEA to discuss their event, workspace or equipment requirements. Please provide details of your needs, and we will respond based on availability and the nature of your request.
BIEA’s phantom 4 RTK DJI surveying drone is state of the art for data collection, while the DGPS is high accuracy to centimetre-level. Our skilled registered drone pilot supports data collection and can also contribute to analysis, generating accurate 2D and 3D models. The drone and pilot are registered with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.
Researchers wishing to analyse archaeological materials may use the BIEA storeroom. We provide technical equipment for find analysis, including calipers, drawing boards, digital weighing scales and microscopes (including a Nikon petrographic microscope). In certain cases, archaeological finds may be temporarily stored at BIEA while under analysis.
The BIEA has a large and well-maintained selection of camping and excavation equipment which can be hired by researchers to take into the field. Researchers are advised to book equipment well in advance of arriving in Nairobi.
The BIEA offers high resolution professional photography and video cameras to record and effectively present your research.
